Galápagos Islands Luxury Yacht Charter: 8-Days of Unforgettable Adventures

BEAGLE VIII

DAY 1: Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island, Charles Darwin Research Station

Embark on your private luxury yacht charter through the magical Galapagos Islands from Puerto Ayora. Home to both the Charles Darwin Foundation and the Galápagos National Park, Puerto Ayora is the center of the Galápagos conservation efforts. After checking in on your private, luxury charter yacht, take an excursion to the Charles Darwin Research Station to learn the history of the islands and future conservation plans. The Research Station offers an excellent opportunity to appreciate closely the giant  sea turtles, land iguanas and other ancient creatures.

DAY 2: Suarez Point and Garner Bay

Española Island is known as one of the oldest islands in the Archipelago, with an estimated age of 3.3 million years. The Galápagos albatrosses and marine iguana are just two of the species considered endemic to this island. In addition to unique wildlife, located on a cliff is the amazing blowhole named  El Soplador, cpabale of shooting water 20 to 25 feet high, depending on the intensity of the waves.Garner Bay features a wide open beach located on the north coast of Española Island, home to a large colony of sea lions and a great photo opportunity to catch these endearing animals at play.

DAY 3: Santa Fe and South Plaza Island

Also called Barrington Island, is located in the central part of the Galápagos archipelago. The ascending trail takes visitors to the peak of a cliff where the Santa Fe species of land iguana can be seen. After a long hike, there is nothing better than a swim in the calm waters of the bay or snorkeling in the company of sea lions at the base of the rocks. South Plaza Island is off the east end of Santa Cruz Island. Here about 1,000 sea lions and land iguanas are everywhere. South Plaza Island features a breathtaking perimeter trail through that is easy to follow.

DAY 4: North Seymour, Bartolome Island, Pinnacle Rock

Located north of Baltra is a two-mile trail through low level bush that hosts the largest nesting colony of Great Frigate birds in Galápagos. Blue footed boobies nest along the trail and land iguanas can be viewed in their natural environment. This is also an excellent spot for snorkeling.

Probably the most emblematic visiting sites in The Galápagos are Bartolome Island  and Pinnacle Rock due to the dazzling natural beauty and spectacular landscape. Majestic sea turtles and Galápagos penguins favor this location as a nesting site. Visitors can climb all the way to the highest point on the island by means of a wooden stairway that culminates in a breathtaking view. Here too, snorkeling in the bay is an awesome experience.

DAY 5: Punta Espinoza and Urbina Bay

On the northeastern tip of Fernandina Island a narrow ledge of lava and sand dramatically stretches from the base of the volcano into the sea. Punta Espinoza is famous for its large colonies of marine iguanas. The teaming shoreline is also home to hawks, Galápagos snakes, and many other species. For botany enthusiasts, this is an ideal place to observe the lava cactus (Brachycerus nesioticus) overtaking the lava rocks.

Urbina Bay is located at the eastern base of the Alcedo volcano. The yacht will make a wet landing and guests will disembark to hike a fascinating trail that runs through sand substrates, pumice rock, lava, coral and exotic formations of vegetation including brightly colored cactus.

DAY 6: Elizabeth Bay and Punta Moreno

Located on Isabela Island`s west shore, the marine life found here is extremely interesting. The site is considered one of the best places to observe Galapagos penguins perched on rocky coastal formations. A small mangrove-lined canal emerges into a hidden cove where sea turtles, rays, sea lions, and small sharks are abundant. Punta Moreno is located on the sensational north coast of Isabela Island with a panoramic view of three volcanoes, Sierra Negra and Cerro Azul on Isabela Island and La Cumbre on Fernandina Island is truly spectacular. There are many species that use the lagoons as a nursery site that often makes viewing especially charming.

DAY 7: Post Office Bay, Cormorant Point & Devils Crown

This historic site recalls the days of the buccaneers, whalers, and the first human settlement in the Galápagos.  Legend has it that in the 18th century a whaling boat captain placed a barrel for mail drop off and and delivery.  Spelunkers will be interested in the cave reached via a lava tunnel.  Cormorant Point is located on the north Coast of Floreana Island. A trail leads up to a viewing site overlooking a lagoon that is home to a large colony of flamingos. Continue back down along the path to a white sand beach that is a nesting area for sea turtles and attracts many rays and sea turtles visible just offshore. Devils Crown is renowned for the plentiful varieties of marine life. Located off the coast of Floreana Island, this hollow crater offers amazing snorkeling around and inside the inner part of the crater.

DAY 8: Santa Cruz Highlands

The final day guests must bid farewell to new friends, their splendid yacht and fantastic crew. For those guests who have extended their charter vacation with a land segment, the 40 minute drive to the highlands of Santa Cruz from Puerto Ayora offers an opportunity to view astonishing transitions in vegetation according to altitude. Or simply take a short stroll from the town center to capture final photos of iguanas, birds, crabs, whitetip reef sharks and gigantic turtles.

Marine Conservation Organization REEF Partners with Paradise Watersports, Peter Island, BVI

Yacht charterers who plan to cruise in the Virgin Islands this season should make a point of stopping in at Paradise Watersports, at Peter Island Resort and Spa in the British Virgin Islands. Paradise Watersports is an important partner and supporter of REEF, the nonprofit organization dedicated to marine conservation. Divers, snorkelers, and marine life enthusiasts will find this Reef Field Station interesting and educational.

REEF surveyor Randy Keil heads up the Reef Advanced Assessment Team. Randy was first introduced to REEF over 10 years ago by Lad Akins. Since then, he has built a great program at Paradise Watersports. All of their instructors dive with slates and pencils, and fish and creature identification is done on every dive. Randy notes that “it has been our experience that our divers and snorkelers enjoy the experience of looking at marine life and immediately having it identified. It also gives them a basis on which we can talk about the dive when we’re back on the boat. Instead of ‘what was that big fish with all the colors?’ we get ‘now you called that fish a grasby, I thought it was a grouper?’ It serves as a springboard for discussion and an understanding of the relationships of the reef community.”

Lionfish

Paradise Watersports is also involved in helping track the invasive lionfish. Randy sees this as just one advantage of having the REEF survey program in place locally. With over 1500 surveys in the BVI and over 100,000 in the Caribbean region, the REEF database is a valuable tool in tracking the lionfish invasion and better understanding the impact the lionfish is having on the various areas. In the BVI, the dive operators, including Paradise Watersports, are making a determined effort to keep lionfish off of the moored reefs. Conservation and Fisheries has issued exemptions to the strict no spearfishing laws that allow each dive operation and several of the crewed charter yachts to capture lionfish.

Reef aims to conserve marine ecosystems for their recreational, commercial, and intrinsic value by educating, enlisting and enabling divers and other marine enthusiasts to become active stewards and citizen scientists. REEF links the diving community with scientists, resource managers and conservationists through marine-life data collection and related activities.

The Emax Super Marine 45: World’s First High Speed, Zero Carbon, Superyacht Tender

The Emax Solar Hybrid Jet Propelled Tender is powered by twin CMD TDI V6s coupled to GM Allison Hybrid Transmissions. Each 450hp Diesel Electric Power Plant is revolutionary as it weighs no more than its gasoline equivalents while consuming 40% less fuel. The environmentally friendly superyacht tender uses a 32KWh Lithium UPS to achieve speeds up to 25 knots in virtually silent electric mode. At full speed the transmission shifts into low gear, engaging the V6s and loading the Hi-Torque RR Waterjets for rapid acceleration.  Once on plane, the transmission selects the most economical rpm for the load at all speeds up to 80 knots. The 900hp (1160 ft. lbs of torque) Carbon Epoxy Super Marine 45 is the fastest most powerful tender in the world and significantly greener than other tenders in her class.

The Emax uses the same dual mode Electrically Variable Transmission, for excellent economy and performance, as thousands of hybrid buses the world over, the GM fleet of Hybrid pickup trucks, the Hybrid Cadillac Escalade and the Hybrid Bluetec S Class Mercedes Benz. Whether shuttling passengers and supplies back and forth or embarking on an exhilarating adventure, the chic teak decked Super Marine 45 seats up to 10 people, plus 4 sunbathers on the sun bed. In the cabin is a shower room with stand-up head, double bed, kitchenette with fridge/freezer, stove and microwave. The foredeck table is ideal for a buffet or al fresco dining for six guests.

As a jet propelled Zero Carbon recreational watercraft she is the safest and by far the most Eco Friendly boat of her kind. The EPA estimates that registered recreational boats in the USA produce a staggering 330 million metric tons of CO2 per year. Switching from gasoline to Emax Solar Hybrid propulsion can reduce that figure by over 50% thereby reducing global warming pollution by more than 160 million metric tons per year.
